LARRY POWELL
Larry Powell is a true artist born and raised in South Central LA.
As an actor he has premiered some of the most exciting New Plays of the past decade including The Christians by Lucas Hnath, The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, Father Comes Home From The Wars by Suzan Lori Parks, Brokeology by Nathan Louis Jackson, While I Yet Live by Billy Porter, and Bronzeville by Aaron Woolfolk and Tim Toyama. He also stars as Lawrence in the movie The Browsing Effect (PrimeVideo). He’s been nominated for and won a host of acting awards for his work on stage. But, more importantly building a mighty network of exquisite, multicultural changemaking artists. He is the recipient of the 2021 IAMA Theatre Company Shonda Rhimes Unsung Voices Playwriting Award. He wrote the play “The Gaze”, a 2021 O'Neill NPC finalist, and adapted it into an award-winning digital series during the early days of the pandemic. “The Gaze Series” is a two-time 2021 EMMY Award nominee, 2021 Webby Award Honoree and the 2021 Micheaux Film Festival’s Best Comedic Digital Series Winner. He also Wrote/Directed/Starred In/Produced his debut feature film project “Mother’s Milk: A Film Quilt” (2021 Seattle International Film Festival’s New American Cinema Special Jury Prize). Larry is also the recipient of the inaugural 2021 Circle of Confusion Writers Discovery Fellowship, as well as The 2021 Cornelia Street Award for Playwriting. Larry has directed stellar productions of “The Brothers Size '' by Tarell Alvin McCraney and “Pipeline” by Dominique Morisseau at USC.
As a coach, he has over a decade of experience. He has a true gift for helping fellow artists find the sweet spot of “their individual ‘it’ factor”. Through deep, impactful sessions he helps them secure callbacks, exceptional feedback, and producer/director sessions from consistently shining self-tapes and live auditions. This work ultimately leads to them booking the roles of their dreams. Most recently he has coached a handful of clients into series regular roles on major series Network and Streaming. The others are consistently booking Guest Stars, Great Roles in Major Motion Pictures and Indies, as well as Broadway plays and musicals.
He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon’s School of Drama and Founder of Free The Arts, a holistic experience for diverse, intergenerational Black artists to put each other on game through quality training, community, opportunity, and new, bold works for a new audience.
Galen j. williams
Recently graduated from USC's Master of Fine Arts program in Acting, Galen J. Williams is an Atlanta native, multi-hyphenate artist as an actor, writer, singer, dancer and acting coach.
He made his Broadway debut in Motown the Musical, can be seen on Season 1 of POSE on FX and is the star of the Daytime Emmy-Nominated Digital Series "The Gaze", created by Free The Arts Founder Larry Powell, playing opposite of the Emmy-Nominated Sharon Lawrence, TC Carson, and an all-star cast. He has coached clients that have appeared on "Wu-Tang: An American Saga" on Hulu, "Blacklist" on NBC, and "Girls 5 Eva" on Peacock. And has also coached current students of MFA programs at UCSD and USD.
